Sunday School for Kids

Our students reading a dedication for congregants prior to delivering food donations

The basics: We have Sunday school for children from mid-September through mid-June. Kids arrive at 9:45 a.m. and are done by 11:15. We meet in the Holton Hall pre-school area (downstairs) while the congregation worships upstairs.

There are vacation Sundays synchronized with Christmas, Easter, and school vacation dates.  The program is open to students 3 years old through 6th grade.

Children three years old to Pre-K have supervised play with “hands on” educational and fun toys.  Their large play space is a separate area where they can build, draw, and look at books while able to observe older student at class.  They may join Opening Worship.

Students K through 3rd grade join together for Opening Worship, Bible stories, activity pages, prayer, and sharing about what they studied.  They will learn about the Lord’s Prayer; Genesis 1; Noah’s Ark; God’s promises to Abraham and Sarah; Joseph and his brothers; Psalm 100; the birth of Jesus.

Fourth and fifth graders join others for Opening Worship, then use the Bible and activities to look at the Lord’s Prayer; Genesis, Psalm 100, the birth of Jesus, and the Golden Rule.  They prepare a brief summary to share what they learned.

Sixth grade through ninth grade use an advanced adult study Bible to look into many aspects of the Christian faith – prayer, discipleship, serving God, and worship.  They prepare part of the lessons for the younger students.

Each Sunday the classes enjoy popcorn, fruit, and sometimes homemade pretzels or Middle Eastern food.  All ages of Sunday School students decorate Thanksgiving food collection bags and participate with the congregation in Christmas, Palm Sunday, Easter, and Children’s Day presentations.  We collect donations for mission projects.

“Know that the LORD is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. (Ps 100.3)
