Dorothy A. (Williams) “Dottie” Chapman Obituary

Dorothy A. (Williams) “Dottie” Chapman, age 89, of South Hampton, NH, a longtime resident of  Newbury and Newburyport, passed away at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a period of declining health.  She was the devoted wife of Arthur Chapman, her soul mate and each others best friend.

Born in Boston, June 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Nielsen) Williams and was a graduate of Saugus High School.  Dottie, as she was known by many, was employed at the
Woodbridge School in Newbury for many years and was dearly loved by her students and colleagues.

Dottie and her husband Arthur had been active members of the First Parish Church of Newbury for many years and making lifelong friends throughout their travels.

She leaves behind her dearest husband, Arthur Chapman; two sons, Jeffrey Chapman and wife Steffanie of Fremont, OH and David Chapman and wife Linda of Starks, ME; her daughter, Barbara Fredette and husband Robert of South Hampton, NH; her brother, Roger Williams of Wiscasset, ME, along with 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and extended family and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA. 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11 A.M. at the First Parish Church of Newbury, 20 High Road, Newbury, MA, followed by a Graveside Service at Thomas Parker Cemetery, across the street from the Church. 

Donations in her memory may be made to the First Parish Church of Newbury.
