Overview:

First Parish Church of Newbury is seeking a dedicated and talented organist to join our faith community. The organist will play weekly on Sundays (except Sundays in July), including 3 hymns, an introit, Gloria Patri, Doxology, and Postlude. Additionally, the organist will direct a small amateur choir for Easter and Christmas, handling music selection, practices, and performances. This position requires a strong understanding of music theory, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with our worship team.

Duties:

- Play the organ during Sunday services and other special events
- Lead the congregation in hymns and worship songs
- Collaborate with the Pastor to select music for services
- Direct and manage a small amateur choir for Easter and Christmas
- Select music and lead choir practices and performances

Skills:

- Experience playing the organ in a church setting
- Strong understanding of music theory and harmony
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with worship music and hymns, especially The New Century Hymnal and the Trinity Hymnal
- Knowledge of traditional and contemporary music styles
- Ability to read sheet music and lead from the organ console
- Ability to work with and direct an amateur choir

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $100-$120 per service plus extra for any rehearsals

Ability to Commute: Newbury, MA 01951 (Required)
