Parsonages

b&w photo of parsonage

The first parsonage in Newbury was on the lower green, built in 1637. Rev. Thomas Parker lived there with his cousin and colleague, Rev. James Noyes.

When the meeting house was moved to the upper green 1n 1647, Rev. Noyes built a new home on land granted him. He and Rev. Parker lived there until their deaths.

During Rev. Noyes’ lifetime the place of residence was called Noyes’ Lane. The name was later changed to Parker Street. The Rev. James Noyes house still stands on Parker Street and is occupied by the Joseph Dolans at this time.
