Fifth Meeting House 1806

pjoto of pews

Since the building of the last meeting house, 8 other religious societies had formed from groups that had broken away from the original body. Therefore, a smaller building was in order. This was the last meeting house to be erected on the ground of the burying ground.

Pews this time were sold and owners were responsible for painting and furnishing them. The pulpit was reached by a flight of stairs – I wonder if they were rickety!

The galleries stretched along 3 sides of the meeting house. The singer’s gallery was at the back, directly opposite the pulpit.
