Rebuilding after Fire of 1868

sanctuary

While the ashes were still smoldering, the parish met and voted to rebuild.

Pews were sold from $35 to $250 per pew for floor pews. Gallery pews were $25 to $35.

Pledges came in for the bell, clock in tower, marble tablets, communion table, pulpit chairs, hymn books – all gifts.

The old church bell was melted down to make little bells to be sold to raise funds.

The organ had been insured for $1,000. A new organ was bought by the women of the parish for $3,200. They also bought carpet and fixtures for $1,500 more.

Total cost of land and building was $15,500. All was raised and the house dedicated without a single dollar of incumbrance.
